Hello Everyone! HAPPY WEEKEND!

Confession: The pants you see in today’s post have been in my closet unworn (with the tags on) for about two years. I tend to make impulse decisions when it comes to clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. without really thinking about what I own that will go with this suddenly non-negotiable purchase. Or worse– sometimes I’ll end up buying something almost identical to an item I already have in my closet.

Lately, I have really been trying to think through my purchases to avoid this little issue. Here’s what usually happens: I’ll buy something thinking that the item is destined to  be soon sold out and I’ll of course never be able to forgive myself if I let this little gem get away from me. So I purchase it knowing, I can very well take it back if buyer’s remorse sets in later. The problem? It NEVER does…yes…even if I can’t afford it…and even if I have something almost identical to it. The thought of trekking all the way back to the store, wasting gas money, probably driving in the rain (it will of course be dramatic) to return something I actually really like, just doesn’t seem to pan out well for me.

My new solutions to this little problem? Three things.

1) Don’t buy it-Sleep on it. I’m a huge fan of instant gratification, but it is also a major weak point for me. If I want something, I WANT IT NOOOOWWW. So as of recently, if I find something I am debating on getting, I’ll stubbornly put it on hold and force myself to think about it. I tell myself if am willing to go all the way back to the store for it the next day, I must really want it!

2) Internet shop. Now, this can be equally as dangerous depending on your personality. I typically don’t make impulse purchases on the internet because there are usually like four different steps I have to go through to finalize the purchase. Am I sure I want to make this purchase?! I had better be! Plus, you have to wait a few days to actually receive the item. This goes back to my whole instant gratification obsession. If I am shopping in person, I walk away satisfied with my item in hand immediately. If I am willing to wait for something, it is definitely something I need to have! Now, some people may view internet shopping differently. ‘Wow! That was so easy! My purchase is done and I didn’t even have to enter my pin number!’ If this is you and you find your fingers getting a little trigger happy on that mouse, STAY AWAY from this one.

3) Take an inventory of your closet. Ughhhhh….I know. It sucks. Like really. I know. It’s really time consuming, but worth it in the long run. There are a lot of sites out there that you can use to manage your closet inventory and even put together outfits without even touching the items you own. It’s the next best thing since that computerized closet from Clueless. You know what I’m talking about :). By knowing what you have, you won’t buy similar items and you can look through and even see what colors you lack in your closet. You can also try and figure out if you even have anything to go with your potential purchase. My favorite website to use for this is I swear this is not a shameless plug and is not any sort of sponsored post. I simply searched high and low for a website to fit my needs and this was the one I liked the best. Plus, they have an app if you are actually out and about, which makes it very easy. It is also completely free!

Now, back to these pants. They are a really light material and every time I thought of wearing them, I felt as if I would look like I was ready for bed. There is a pajama-like quality about them and I couldn’t seem to get that out of my mind. But this is the sort of challenge I enjoy, so I paired it with a blouse and heels and now feel like it actually can look kind of fancy for the office. All in all, I actually am glad I got them even though they were an impulse buy….which kind of undermines all of the tips I just gave you. Ugh. What can I say? I am a walking contradiction.

I have buyer’s remorse all the time.. definitely hasn’t stopped me from buying too many things! Haha I definitely need to work on it, I’m just happy that I’m one of those people that hate online shopping or else I would be in big trouble! I do love those pants though! How fun is it that you kind of got to shop in your closet!

I try to take my time when buying something. I make sure I really want it. I do most of my shopping online.
